Hello again!
I’m taking a very quick break from projects to give you all an update on what I’ve been working on. I haven’t been very good at posting here as I’ve been a bit overwhelmed, but if it makes you feel better, I haven’t been very good at much else besides getting on with my mammoth task list, either. And eating far too many carbs, obviously.
I’ve committed to a lot of projects this year (and into the next) and didn’t quite appreciate the impact of my choices. Don’t be like me, pals! Enjoy free time, and frolicking in nature.
Anyway, stop complaining, you’re bringing down the mood. God.
BOOKS, books, and more books
The 9th (?!) book in the Wigglesbottom Primary, The Sports Day Chicken, published at the start of the month. I haven’t seen a copy in the flesh yet, but it’s as bonkers as usual! Pamela is brilliant.
I’ve been spending a lot of time with this guy, working on a 3-book series that’s quite different from what I usually work on. It’s been fun, but intense! There are lots of little details and consistencies that have to be considered, so my brain is a bit fried. I’m finishing up the final artwork for book 3, so it’s almost a wrap!
I’ve just delivered roughs for the first in a 4-book series I mentioned in my last post. I can’t say too much yet, but it’s a mix of standard spreads, and comic book-style pages which I’ve wanted to do more of, so I’m enjoying it a lot! The characters leap off the page, I can’t wait to share more.
Another project keeping me busy is a new book in the Famous Five series. Above are a couple of roughs (please don’t look too closely) and I’m currently getting through final art.
I thought I was done, but I forgot that I also worked on this mad-cap cover for a new book by Claire Fayers. I’ve illustrated some of Claire’s other covers as well, but it was purely out of the blue that I ended up working on this one, too. It took a few goes to get right (see below for the initial colour rough which was much too young) but I’m pleased with how it turned out! Publishing 7th Sept!
And I think that’s it for now! I’m excited to share the cover of the third book in Jo Clarke’s Libby series… which is almost, ALMOST done. So hopefully next time I post, it’ll be fresh off the press.
I’d love to work on some branding for my Substack. I’m thinking something cute and cosy. Perhaps a rabbit as I can now draw those in my sleep? What do you think? Any ideas, let me know in the comments!
Signing off with this wee fella I did for the Friday Doodle Club on Instagram. They have some great prompts, I wish I’d gotten involved sooner. Shout out to
who helps to run it, and also has a Substack which you should check out!
Oooh so much awesome new work! And thanks for the shout out 👯♀️🎤⚓️🎉
Your workload stresses me out! Haha! I hope you’ve got some time to sit and rest and whatnot in between it all.
